About Bernice Sam

Bernice Sam is a consultant (Dialogue Lead) on the DFID-funded Western Region Coastal Foundation programme in Ghana. Prior to this position, Bernice held various senior positions including country manager for the Swiss-based International Cocoa Initiative, the Executive Director for Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF Ghana), country manager for the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative and development officer for the Dutch SNV in the Western Region.

Her work straddled community, national and international levels where she has made a mark in advocating for rights of vulnerable people. She was instrumental in the now established Women’s Dialogue with Presidential Candidates that occurs during election years in Ghana. Ms Sam is presently a Commissioner of the Water Resources Commission and has served on a number of national committees.

Ms Sam holds a Master of Laws Degree from Georgetown University, USA, Bachelor of Laws Degree from the Ghana Law School, Barrister at Law Degree from the University of Ghana and a Certificate in Advertising, Public Relations and Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

About Helen Kanzira

Helen Kanzira was an alumna of both Makerere University and the University of Pretoria. She died in 2007 at the very early age of 39 as a result of complications arising from giving birth to a baby girl.
