International collaboration opportunity for students on #PolicingLaw to engage in an international effort to collect national legislation on the use of force.

When: Friday 16 February 2018 at 13:00
Where: Moot Court, Faculty of Law, Hatfield Campus, University of Pretoria

Building upon the work of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions and in support of Prof Christof Heyns’ current work on the UN Human Rights Committee, the Institute for International and Comparative Law in Africa (ICLA) is collaborating with research institutions around the world (including at the University of Oxford) to collect national legislation on the use of force by the police and to produce a comprehensive commentary on the extent to which such laws conform with established international standards.

Students interested in participating in this desktop research alongside international experts are invited to a short briefing about the database, at which Stuart Maslen, Honorary Professor at the University of Pretoria, will introduce the concept and discuss the necessary work.
