The Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, hosted its second short course on business and human rights at the University of Pretoria from 10 - 14 July 2017. The event was made possible with support from the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Regional Office for Southern Africa. The short course brought together more than 55 participants, from 18 countries across Africa, with backgrounds that include national human rights institutions, academia, civil society, legal practitioners and government.

A number of experts on business and human rights from across the globe came to teach on the short course, which included topics such as gender in business, public participation and consultation, illicit financial flows, the impacts of infrastructure projects and the extractive industries, and different levels of redress available to victims of corporate human rights abuse.

The Business and Human Rights unit at the Centre for Human Rights is thankful to everyone that supported the short course, and remains steadfast in its commitment to human rights capacity builsing and education in Africa. To this end, the Centre for Human Rights will build on the great foundation that the past two years have laid for this short course, and work towards hosting a short ocourse of a similar nature in the near future.
