This project is aligned with the Centre’s campaign for 2020 #Tech4Rights and examines the intersection between children’s rights and the rapidly growing technological advances in our society. The project adopts a multi-pronged approach to the protection of children in the cyberspace and entails research generating, capacity building, advocacy and the development of a continentally-applicable soft law instrument. The fourth industrial revolution has proven to be a two-edged sword with regards to children’s online participation, facilitating, on the one hand, their access to technology and the internet, while exposing them, on the other hand, to risks associated to their privacy rights, protected by regional instruments (article 10 of the African Children’s Charter). This study focuses on the African child and supports the work of the African Children’s Committee.
