Participated in the 9th edition of the African Human Rights Moot Court competition in 2000 (Accra, Ghana)
Mooted in Jessup in 1999 and we came second. Was in the team representing UP. This was the first time an African university had made it to the finals since 1977. Prof Frans Viljoen was our coach; and my team mate, Lawrence Mashava, got the best oralist award. I coached the UP team for the African Moot in 2004, Tanzania. The team won the competition, got the best oralist award, and best memorials award
Lungowe is the Vice Chairperson of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism, National Governing Council of Zambia. She is a Member of the African Union Steering Committee on the Guidelines on Constitutional Amendments. She advises the National Assembly of Zambia through the SADC Parliamentary Project on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, HIV/AIDS and Governance. Lungowe is passionate about human rights. She is a permanent judge on the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition held in Geneva every year. She holds a Master of Laws from the University of Pretoria, and a Doctorate in Philosophy of Law from the University of Cambridge. She has held numerous leadership positions in academia including that of Dean of Law, Head of Department, Assistant Dean and Senator. She is also a senior legal researcher with 20 years of experience at the national, regional and international level. She has undertaken consultancies for the Government of Zambia, African Union, United Nations, GIZ and other development partners, civil society organisations, embassies and many more. She has been awarded for her teaching, writing and orator skills by the University of Pretoria, University of Ireland and the University of Washington, DC.
