 5-day intensive short course on Women’s Rights in Africa.\n\n\nCourse date:

 y of Pretoria Main Campus\n\n\nApply online\n\nAbout the course\n\nThe cour
 se provides a balance between theory and practical advocacy skills useful f
 or practitioners from across the continent working in areas relating to wom
 en’s rights.\n\n\nThe course examines the international and regional human 
 rights frameworks that guarantee the human rights of women and girls in Afr
 ica, with a particular focus on the Protocol to the African Charter on Huma
 n and Peoples Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (The Maputo Protocol)
 . The course provides an opportunity to critically evaluate the potential o
 f these human rights frameworks to challenge obstacles undermining the effe
 ctive protection of women’s rights in Africa. The course components include
 :\n\n - An introduction to international, regional and subregional framewor
 ks on the human rights of women and girls.\n - A critical examination of th
 e concept of gender equality and the approaches to understanding gender equ
 ality and gender justice, including feminism and intersectionality.\n - Exp
 lore questions of cultural relativism, religion and gender norms in advanci
 ng women’s rights\n - Practical ideas on using the law and human rights pri
 nciples in promoting women’s rights\n - Reflect on key elements of advocacy
  and lobby planning and share information on positive interventions.\n - Pa
 rticipantsThis course is designed for governmental officials, managers and 
 staff of civil society organisations, judges and magistrates, legal practit
 ioners, as well as academics from Universities in Africa. Participants from
  all over the world are, nevertheless, welcome to apply. Masters and doctor
 al students wishing to deepen their knowledge or expertise in a particular 
 area of relevance to their study or research may also apply. Between 20 and
  30 participants are admitted to each course. All lectures and materials ar
 e in English, and proficiency in English is required to attend these course
 s.\nCourse Fees\n\nCourse attendance is free. Tuition, course materials, te
 as and lunch for the duration of the course are covered by the Centre for H
 uman Rights. Participants from Gauteng are encouraged to apply.\n\n\nHoweve
 r, participants will need to pay for their own transport and accommodation 
 costs.\n\n\nAn option of securing accommodation through the Centre for Huma
 n Rights is available at a cost of is ZAR 4000 (US 330) for the duration of
  the course. This includes breakfast, dinner and transport from the hotel t
