One key institution, in this regard, is the police.\n\n\nTopics include\nThe programme will cover the following topics : \n\n - Theories, Challenges and Opportunities for accountable polici ng\n - International standards for policing\n - Internal & external ove rsight mechanisms \n - Use of force in law enforcement\n - Management of assemblies (“public order policing”) \n - Forensic investigation\n - Police corruption\n - Torture/custody visits\n - Discrimination & Vul nerability\n - Evidence-based policingParticipants\nThis is a high-level co urse, particularly designed for practitioners working in the field of polic e accountability and oversight in Africa. Applications from judicial office rs, post-graduate students with a relevant research focus, government offic ials responsible for relevant issues, and members of civil society groups e xperienced in and engaged with the issues are encouraged.\nApplicants from around the world are invited. However, the course will have an African focu s and will be aimed at equipping African experts to play a stronger role in international discussions around these topics. Applicants from African cou ntries are, therefore, in particular, encouraged to apply, as are young sch olars. \n\n\nA maximum of 45 participants are admitted each year.  ;No scholarships are available for this year’s course.
