MOOC RPDP The right to privacy in the digital age in Africa

As part of the project, between 24 May and 28 June 2021, the EIDR Unit organised and launched a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the right to privacy in the digital age in Africa. The MOOC was aimed at setting the tone for free and improved data protection education in Africa. The course was designed for and attended by academics, lawyers, human rights activists, regional and sub-regional bodies, data protection authorities, governments departments/agencies, Data Protection Authorities (DPAs), and other key stakeholders involved in policy and advocacy for privacy rights and data protection in the digital age. An updated version of the MOOC will be launched in October 2022.

Advanced Human Rights Course on Data Protection in Africa

The EIDR Unit has launched an inaugural Advanced Human Rights Courses (AHRC) course on Data Protection in Africa. The course will take place from 19 to 23 September 2022. The aim of the course is to improve existing knowledge on various intersecting aspects of data protection within the African context. The course targets participants drawn from civil society organisations, policymakers, academia, grassroots advocates, private sector actors and others especially from various African countries. The course will encompass the following themes:

  • Regulatory frameworks
  • Children and data protection
  • Women and data protection
  • Data protection authorities
  • Data protection and persons with disabilities
  • Open data governance and data protection 
  • Data protection in elections.
  • Sexual minorities and data protection
