The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly disrupted many of the systems that assure children’s mental health and well-being but it also highlights already existing failures to care for the mental health of children and the adults caring for them (parents, other carers, teachers).

How do children learn about the importance of mental health? Which types of mental health awareness activities and tools are already used in schools? What other informal ways exist to learn about mental health?
Does the education system sometimes contribute to the deterioration of the mental health of children? For instance, by promoting unhealthy competition?
From 31 January to 1 February 2022, an online International Conference organised by Global Campus of Human Rights in collaboration with the Kathmandu School of Law will present the Global Study findings, conclusions and recommendations on children deprived of liberty and facilitate the discussion and development of an initial National Action Plan (NAP) for the Study’s implementation by engaging relevant stakeholders and maximising meaningful children participation.
The purpose of this e-coffee talk with Global Campus Alumni with expertise in child rights is to analyse some of the main challenges emerging regionally and engage in a discussion about some of the possible solutions. The key conclusions of this talk will feed into the discussions of the children and young people at that conference.

- Véronique Lerch, is an international human rights consultant, specialised in child rights. She was previously the Head of Advocacy at SOS Children’s Villages International. She holds a European Master degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA) from Global Campus of Human Rights and a Master in International Affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University).
