The Women’s Rights Unit of the Centre for Human Rights is looking for an experienced consultant with research expertise to conduct a study on the impact of COVID 19 pandemic and state measures in relation to the pandemic, on the rights of older women in selected Southern African states.
The successful candidate will be appointed for the duration of the study, to cover the period from the report writing to the dissemination of the findings of the study at an online webinar which will be hosted in July 2022 with relevant stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for conducting research for and prepare a report on the impacts of COVID-19 on older women’s rights in Southern Africa with a focus on five states; South Africa, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Malawi and Zambia. The research report is to be completed within a month of being contracted. The consultant will present the findings of the study at an online webinar to be hosted by the Women’s Rights Unit with participation from relevant stakeholders in July 2022.
The position is home-based.
Minimum requirements:
- An advanced degree (e.g. masters) in a related field
- Three years of professional experience with non-profit human rights focused organisations, research projects, advocacy campaigns or government offices
- Experience with desktop and qualitative research
- Familiarity with international and regional human rights systems and treaties and frameworks relevant to women’s rights
Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes):
- Enthusiasm for women’s rights advocacy
- Excellent research and inter-personal skills
- Highly motivated with ability to meet deadlines
- Confidence and the ability to be proactive and work independently
