Kennedy Owor

Kennedy Owor is a human-rights lawyer, legal innovator, passionate African, and a top Bachelor of Laws (LLB) graduate from Uganda Christian University with good research skills in English. Kennedy also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Bar Course) from Law Development Centre and is currently employed at Legal Hub Uganda with a double role as a Legal Officer and the Innovations Lead; and an associate at Elau & Ochom Co. Advocate and Legal Consultant. His work experience over the past three years has revolved around promotion and protection of human rights, access to justice, and the use of an inclusive innovative justice solution to help build capacities on human rights knowledge in Uganda and across East Africa. Kennedy is also a rapporteur for Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Uganda & South Sudan), and a fellow at the John Sentamu Institute for Human Rights at Uganda Christian University. Kennedy secured national awards for Legal Hub Uganda with the “Legal Podcast” innovation which has been a game-changer in fighting ignorance of the law and promoting human right awareness in Uganda. In October 2020, Kennedy as the lead innovator for Legal Hub Uganda won the Legal Aid Innovations Challenge 2020 for having the best solution in promoting access to justice, a precious accolade awarded by the Chief Justice of Uganda. Kennedy is a candidate for LL.M Human Rights & Democratization in Africa (HRDA) at University of Pretoria; he expects to understand human rights and democracy from the African perspective and gain skills that would propel him to a world-class human right practitioner. He expects to write papers, dissertation, participate in moots and debates addressing problems during the course. Kennedy hopes to share his experiences on human rights and democracy from Uganda with the class and his immediate ambition on completion of the programme is to strengthen skills and competencies of the people on human right understanding in Uganda by setting up a community-based Human Rights Organisation and Innovation Hub that will groom sustainable trainer-of-trainers and innovators in the promotion of human rights awareness, child and women protection.
