UN Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of Rights of Persons with Albinism visits the University of Pretoria

On 19 September 2019, the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria (UP), welcomed Ms Ikponwosa Ero, the United Nations Independent Expert on the Enjoyment of Rights of Persons with Albinism to UP, during her country visit to South Africa. The meeting was held at the Centre for Human Rights House and the purpose of the meeting was for her to engage with researchers and people who are involved in advocacy for persons with albinism. The meeting allowed Ms Ero to have a greater understanding of key findings based on research conducted in South Africa and also to identify research gaps and areas that needed to be explored further. After the meeting, Ms Ero also met with the Disability Support Unit and some students with disabilities who explained their experiences at school as persons with disabilities.

On 20 and 21 September 2019, the Centre participated in closed talks between the Ms Ero and civil society organisations whose work focuses on persons with albinism, in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
