The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, South Africa, is calling for applications for the Master's degree (LLM/MPhil) in Sexual & Reproductive Rights in Africa (SRRA) for the Class of 2021. The SRRA degree is a unique degree, offered as a blended learning programme, to which 15 individuals from African countries are admitted.

Through its unique combination of physical lectures and online teaching, the SRRA programme provides students with knowledge and understanding of sexual and reproductive health and rights from domestic, regional and global international perspectives while they are taught invaluable research and avocacy skills.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the LLM/MPhil (SRRA) is as follows:

  • For the LLM degree
    An LLB or equivalent qualification required for entrance into the legal profession.

  • For the MPhil degree
    At least an honors degree in an academic discipline relevant to sexual and reproductive rights in African; or any other qualification in an academic discipline relevant to sexual and reproductive rights in African that allows for admission to a master’s programme at the institution where the undergraduate qualification was obtained. If that qualification has a duration of less than four (4) years, substantial proven practical or professional experience in sexual and reproductive rights in Africa, subject to the discretion of the Dean, is further required.

Foreign qualifications are subject to SAQA requirements.

Applicants must have excellent academic credentials and demonstrate human rights experience or interest.

A maximum of fifteen students will be accepted for the 2020 academic year.

Fees / Scholarships

  • 2021 cost estimation for 2021 class
    Southern African students – R 20 000
    Non-Southern African students – R35 000
  • 2022 cost estimation for 2021 class
    Southern African students – R 28 000
    Non-Southern African students – R50 000
  • Up to 15 full scholarships are available for African citizens.
