Emmanuel Ekiru Tioko

Emmanuel Ekiru Tioko is a human rights enthusiast and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law. He previously worked both as a Graduate Assistant and an Associate Editor at the Strathmore Law School. Before that, he worked as a Programme Assistant at Katiba Institute (KI) which is reputed as Kenya’s leading human rights and democratic governance focused Non-Governmental Organization.  

Tioko’s areas of research interest include: Transformative Constitutionalism, Human Rights Law, Administrative Law, Media Law, Oil and Gas Law, African Legal Theory, and Socio-Economic Rights. He hopes that the LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa (HRDA) at the University of Pretoria will influence and deepen his understanding and burning desire of building a movement that uses law as a tool for transformation of states and societies especially within the African continent.
