July 2018 marks the fifteenth anniversary of the adoption of the ground-breaking human rights instrument, the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol). As of April 2018, it has been ratified by 40 countries.

The 15th Anniversary celebrations calls for ratification by the 15 remaining countries, domestication and implementation of the Protocol at the national levels by member states. The high level panel will focus on gains, achievements, challenges and opportunities provided by the Maputo Protocol in improving the status and lives of all women and girls in Africa.
