Boris-Ephrem Tchoumavi was the Best French-speaking Oralist at the 12th African Human Rights Moot Court Competition (Yaoundé, Cameroon) in 2003. Thereafter, he graduated from the LL.M in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa in 2005.
Boris-Ephrem Tchoumavi currently leads the efforts of the United Nations Interim Security Force Abyei (UNISFA) in support of the peace process and the protection of civilians. He assumed this role in 2021. Prior to this appointment, he supported political processes and mediation initiatives in different conflict and post-conflict contexts across Africa.
Mr. Tchoumavi has worked with the United Nations for the last 18 years, holding different positions in headquarters and field locations, in in the areas of human rights and access to justice, governance, gender and political affairs. He served as a Human Rights Officer at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights within the Treaty Bodies and the Special Procedures, providing support to independent experts mandated to assess human rights issues and situations around the world. In these roles, he contributed to the adoption by the Human Rights Council of the Guiding Principles on Foreign Debt and Human rights, and of the Addis Ababa Roadmap, which promotes cooperation between the UN and African human rights systems.
