The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, is organising a capacity-building workshop on engagement with the African human rights system for African civil society organisations (CSOs). The capacity-building workshop is a two-day training workshop scheduled for Friday 12-13 October 2023.
The workshop targets African CSOs that have had no or only limited interaction with the African human rights system (the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, the African Court on Human and People’s Rights and the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child).
The capacity-building workshop aims to provide African CSOs that have not had any or sufficient interaction with the African human rights system an improved understanding of the African Union human rights landscape. The workshop will explore specific entry points that CSOs may use to engage with the African human rights system. The training will cover, among others: the key treaties and mechanisms of the African human rights system and the requirements for formal engagement with the system. The training will be facilitated by subject matter experts and practitioners drawn from academia, legal practitioners, civil society and some of the African human rights bodies in focus.
The cost of participation in the workshop (travel, accommodation, meals, local transport, and certificates) will be covered by the Centre for Human Rights. The participants will be required to arrive at the venue of the workshop (in Pretoria, South Africa) on 11 October, attend the workshop on 12 and 13 October and depart by the morning of 14 October. Please note that there are limited spaces available.
Participants will be informed about their selection by 7 July 2023.
