The African Human Rights Law Journal, published by Pretoria University Law Press, has been appearing in June and December annually since 2001. The December 2025 issue will mark 25 years of uninterrupted publication of the Journal, which is indexed in SCOPUS and the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) (among other indexes).

The editorial team has lost one of its founding co-editors, prof Annelize Nienaber, who has resigned some time after settling in the United Kingdom.

The Journal is looking to add one or two new members to its editorial team. The job of co-editor entails contributing to editorial policy, identifying reviewers, overseeing the review process, and communicating with authors. (The Journal has a separate language and style editor.)

Prospective co-editors should have a solid background in domestic and international human rights, with a focus on Africa.  While the Journal mainly receives submissions written from a legal perspective, it also receives and publishes articles from other disciplinary perspectives, in particular political science.

The African Human Rights Law Journal therefore invites anyone interested in joining its editorial team to write to the editor-in-chief (frans.viljoen@up.ac.za), briefly indicating (a) their the motivation for wanting to join the team; (b)  any relevant editorial experience; and (c) their particular fields of scholarly expertise and interest. Expression of interest should be sent by 30 September 2025.

*Please note that editorship of the AHRLJ is a part-time volunteer position, and is not remunerated.
