The Human Rights Centre at the University for Peace (UPeace) invites you to participate in a fully online training on Multilateral Development Banks’ Accountability Mechanisms from 14 -15 May 2026  at 9:00am–12:00md (GMT-6).

Why this training matters:

  • ·Gain a practical understanding of MDB accountability mechanisms, procedures, mandates, and functions (World Bank Inspection Panel, EBRD IPAM, AIIB PPM, IFC-MIGA CAO, and IDB MICI)
  • ·Develop practical skills to support affected communities and engage with these mechanisms
  • ·Participate in real case studies and interactive excercises with high-level panelists.
  • ·Network with high-level practitioners and academics

Lead Instructor: Kattya Araya, Costa Rican, former Compliance Review Coordinator at the Independent Accountability Mechanism of the IDB Group and lawyer with 25+ years of experience in administrative law, sustainability law, business and human rights, and development finance accountability.

Guest Panelists include: Serge Selwan (World Bank Inspection Panel), Victoria Márquez-Mees (EBRD IPAM), Shamas-ur-Rehman Toor (AIIB PPM), Esteban Tovar (IFC-MIGA CAO), and Andrea Guevara (IDB MICI).
We will also be joined by Dr. Mihir Kanade, Director of the Human Rights Centre and Academic Director/Coordinator, UPeace, as a guest instructor.

Programme Structure:

  • ·Day 1: Understanding MDB accountability mechanisms, a theoretical foundation
  • ·Day 2: Challenges, strategies, and case-based discussion, a forum conversation and evaluation exercise
