The African Human Rights Law Journal (AHRLJ) and the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria (Centre) are pleased to announce the publication of Volume 25, Issue 2 of the AHRLJ.
What's special? This issue marks a significant milestone as the Journal hits its 50th issue in a 25-year long series of publications, bringing to a total of 683 the number of published contributions since the Journal’s first publication in June 2001. Generally-focused articles deal with the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, the Draft International Covenant on the Right to Development, and the reparations orders in the Ongwen case, decided by the International Criminal Court. Country-specific focus falls on articles discussing developments in Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya and South Africa.
What’s new? Taking stock of this achievement, AHRLJ 2025 no 2 features articles on a broad spectrum of contemporary human rights issues, and covering two special focus areas: communication surveillance and human rights in Africa, and the implementation of decisions of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Court).
Editorial team: The team of the AHRLJ consists of Frans Viljoen, Evelyne Asaala, Usang Maria Assim, Elsabe Boshoff, Solomon Ebobrah, Magnus Killander and Martin Nsibirwa. The editors for the Special Focus on communication surveillance are Tomiwa Ilori and Magnus Killander; and the editors of the Special Focus on the implementation of the Court's decisions are Foluso Adegalu and Zainab Olaitan.
The AHRLJ has been published by the Pretoria University Law Press (PULP) since 2013. It is a fully open-access journal – one of the first to make the leap to ‘diamond’ open access.
The AHRLJ and the Centre extend sincere appreciation to all partners and contributors in celebration of 25 years of progress and achievement.
