The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria in partnership with the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) cordially invites you to a breakfast briefing which will “Unpacking Africa Regional Rights Trends: Insights from HRMI’s 2026 Rights Tracker Data.”

The briefing will bring together human rights scholars, civil society actors, policy practitioners, students, researchers, and regional stakeholders to reflect on emerging human rights trends across Africa.

The session will unpack key findings from HRMI’s 2026 Rights Tracker data, with a focus on economic and social rights, empowerment rights, and safety from the state. It will also spotlight regional patterns around access to food, housing, work, health, education, water and sanitation, shrinking civic space, risks faced by journalists and human rights defenders, and the relationship between governance, public resource allocation, and human rights outcomes.

This briefing will create space for dialogue on how human rights data can strengthen advocacy, litigation, policy engagement, academic research, and regional accountability.
