The Centre for Human Rights congratulates Mr. Rashid Dumbuya – a graduate of its Masters Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa (class of 2013), upon his recent appointment as Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone.

Mr. Dumbuya’s appointment was made by the President of Sierra Leone – His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Koroma and was overwhelmingly approved by the Parliament of Sierra Leone. By this appointment, Mr. Dumbuya is the youngest Commissioner to serve at the Human Rights Commission since its inception.

This appointment is just one more example of the remarkable impact and influence our alumni are having across Africa and especially in Sierra Leone where the current Chief Justice – Hon. Justice Abdulai Charm and the Ombudsman – Mr. Melron Nicol-Wilson, are also alumni of the Centre.

We wish Mr. Dumbuya the very best and have no doubts that the human rights system of Sierra Leone has gained tremendously by his appointment.
