Theme: Gender inequalities, social inequities and maternal deaths

The annual lecture is held in honour of Helen Kanzira, a graduate of the pioneer class of the Master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria. She passed away in 2007 at the very early age of 39 as a result of complications arising from giving birth to a baby girl.
