At the end of December 2019, the United Nations Secretary-General established a High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement. The panel had several findings and made recommendations which have been streamlined into The UN Secretary General’s Action Agenda on Internal Displacement. The Action Agenda has three interlinked goals
set for the UN, States, and other actors to achieve, i.e. help IDPs find a durable solution to their displacement; prevent new displacement crises from emerging and; ensure those facing displacements receive adequate protection and assistance.
The Action Agenda further sets out the UN’s commitment and strategies to achieve the three goals set therein. In furtherance of its commitment and execution of the strategies set out in the Action Agenda, seven guiding considerations have been included in the draft document to offer guidance to the UN, states and partner organisations. The different players will be required to abide by the seven guiding considerations in the action agenda while in pursuit of the goals set therein.
According to the Action Agenda, the key players are the member states, UN agencies, NGOs and Development partners, with the role to be played by each of them set out therein. The Action Agenda emphasises the participation and inclusion of internally displaced persons and local communities in finding durable solutions to internal displacement and related challenges.
Objectives

This webinar will hear perspectives from different stakeholders regarding the UN Secretary General’s Action Agenda on Internal Displacement as follows;
- To understand the agenda: Background overview on the action agenda, how it acts as a follow-up on the UN high-level panel on internal displacement report and the implications to national strategies on internal displacement by GP2.0
- To examine the Agenda Vs the Statistics on Internal Displacement: A statistical analysis of internal displacement in Africa and how the Action Agenda can aid the development of measurable strategies to curb the growing number of IDPs in Africa by IDMC.
