June is a month that commemorates the Day of the African Child, during which issues affecting children in Africa are spotlighted. The Centre hopes to capitalise on the momentum of the DAC to draw further attention to the protection of child rights issues by convening a children’s rights conference focused on the implementation of the ACRWC, with a keen focus on protection from harmful practices.
The conference will feature:
- Presentation and discussion of papers on national laws and strategies to alleviate harmful practices in selected African countries
- The launch of an edited volume titled ‘The status of the implementation of the African Children Charter: A ten country study’
- The launch of our documentary on the Talibé children’s communication
- The launch of our continental study on Children’s Participation in the implementation of development frameworks (SDGs, Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2040)
Participants at the conference will include representatives of the AU and UN Children’s Committees if you are able to attend.
