The Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, together with the Oliver & Adelaide Tambo Foundation is hosting the Oliver Tambo Centenary Lecture Series. The first edition of this series of lectures is by Justice Albie Sachs, Retired Judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, at 16:00 SAST on Wednesday 22 February 2017.

About the Oliver Tambo Centenary Lecture Series

2017 commemorates 100 years since the birth of Oliver Reginald Tambo, on 27 October 1917, in Nkantolo, Eastern Cape.

To celebrate his life’s many dimensions and the crucial role he played in our country’s history, the Oliver & Adelaide Tambo Foundation, together with the Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, will host the Oliver Tambo Centenary Lecture Series in the course of 2017.

Oliver Tambo, a lawyer by profession, was a strong proponent of an inclusive African Nationalism as a force for liberation. He was gentle and generous in style, principled and thoughtful in manner. A democrat to his core, deeply influenced by his Christian beliefs, a great listener who encouraged everyone to speak out, his leadership was characterised by total integrity.

The First Oliver Tambo Centenary Lecture will be delivered by Justice Albie Sachs, Retired Judge, Constitutional Court of South Africa.
