Previous experience

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Town and Regional Planning at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, where I have been based since 2017. Over the years, I have taught and coordinated both undergraduate and postgraduate modules—including Settlement Design Concepts, Settlement Planning, and Housing Delivery. Alongside my academic work, I am actively involved in the professional planning industry, working as a Consultant and registered with the South African Council of Planners. I have worked on several significant national and regional projects, such as the development of the Spatial Transformation Barometer for the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), the Integrated Local Government Capacity Building Strategy for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), and emergency accommodation strategies for the City of Johannesburg. These experiences have deepened my interest in human rights—particularly socio-economic rights—given how closely they intersect with planning concerns such as access to housing, public services, and a healthy living environment.
