Paul Maphophe

Giyani, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Bachelor of Laws (LLB), University of South Africa (UNISA), South Africa

Previous experience

I have professional experience as a Court Interpreter with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, where I developed strong communication and courtroom skills. I have also completed my Practical Legal Training and recently concluded my Pupillage, and I am awaiting admission as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.

Academic fields of interest:

My academic interests lie primarily in human rights law, constitutional law, and administrative law, with a particular focus on access to justice and the enforcement of socio-economic rights. I am also interested in criminal procedure and evidence, given their practical importance in litigation, as well as public law more broadly. Additionally, I have a growing interest in legal practice and ethics, especially in relation to advocacy and the role of the courts in upholding the rule of law.

Position prior to the programme

Pupil Advocate (Pupillage) at the National Bar Council of South Africa
