The Advanced Human Rights Courses Programme (AHRC) was established in 2000, and was previously known as the Good Governance Programme
(GGP). The Programme consists of annual advanced short courses dealing with issues pertinent to human rights, development and good governance in Africa.
Each course, lasting one week, is presented by local and international experts in the respective fields, with a careful balance between academics and practitioners. Human rights and development professionals at all levels often have to grapple with the multi-disciplinary challenges presented by the huge gap between human rights in practice and human rights in theory.

Sexual Minority Rights
25 February – 1 March 2019
Sexual Minorities in Africa introduces participants to basic SOGIE concepts and a thematic and geographical exposition of challenges faced by LGBTI persons in Africa. This course is designed for people who wish to obtain basic/introductory information, an understanding of the terminology and a general appreciation of the problems faced by LGBTI persons in realising basic human rights in many societies.

Disability Rights in an African context
11 – 15 March 2019
Disability rights in an African context comes in the wake of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD) (2006) is part of the Centre’s efforts in promoting awareness about disability rights in the African region.

Women's Rights in Africa
25 – 29 March 2019
The course provides a balance between theory and practical advocacy skills useful for practitioners from across the continent working in areas relating to women’s rights.The course examines the international and regional human rights frameworks that guarantee the human rights of women and girls in Africa, with a particular focus on the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa.

Business and Human Rights in Africa
1 – 5 July 2019
This Course will provide an opportunity for stakeholders, especially academics, corporate lawyers, and non-lawyers in business, economic and financial spheres, as well as government and policy leaders, community leaders, experts, and researchers, to discuss, debate and clarify how to support businesses in this emerging area.

Police oversight and vulnerable groups
9 – 13 September 2019
The aim of the course is to profile police accountability and oversight as a human rights and governance concern, and assist in building a community of practitioners on the continent who can become active advocates for increased accountability of the police, and who are skilled to identify and act in terms of overseeing the actions of the police

Civil Society law in Africa
30 September – 4 October 2019
Through the Legal Education Initiative, ICNL partners with selected African educational institutions to promote the study of laws affecting civil society. The Legal Education Initiative seeks to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders with respect to the legal and regulatory principles affecting civil society.

African human rights system in comparative perspectives
21 – 25 October 2019
The course focuses on regional human rights norms and its application in Africa. The course covers a general introduction to human rights law and the role players in the development and enforcement of human rights norms in Africa.
