Previous experience
Between 2012-2014 I completed a general BA degree from the University of Pretoria, where I got exposed to societies/entities such as UP& Out, Perdeby, and CSA&G. I worked as a news reporter for Perdeby, while also juggling my duties as Marketing and Communications officer of the school’s official LGBTQ+ society, Up and Out. I then proceeded to study BHons in Journalism and Media Studies at university of Witwatersrand which furthered my passion for advocacy through storytelling. Whilst at Wits, I joined the LGBTI society, and trained to be a Safezone Ally (an international network and safe space for LGBTIQ+.) I have since worked for the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), firstly as a graduate under the Compliance and Consumers Affairs Unit, and later as an elections broadcasting monitor. Currently, I am an independent consultant at Film and Publication Board where I work as a chief classifier, classifying films, series, games, publications etc. to assess potential jurisdictional harm and assign the most appropriate age rating, with the bigger purpose of protecting children from harmful viewing content.
Academic fields of interest:
- Human Rights Law
- Media and Film analysis
- Regulatory Law
Position prior to the programme
