Country / Where did you grow up:
Banjul, The Gambia
Academic qualifications:
Bachelor of Laws (LLB), University of The Gambia
Experience:
I have been working in the children's and women's rights movement in The Gambia from an early age, with experience in the design and implementation of projects targeting grassroots communities and national policymakers. Through my work, I have led and supported a series of advocacy and awareness creation projects addressing violence against women and children, with a special focus on Female Genital Mutilation and Child Marriages as forms of Gender-Based Violence. My interest in these areas has seen my work with various national and regional networks, including Think Young Women, The Girl Generation, Women Living Under Muslim Laws, The Gambia National Child and Youth Advisory Board on Violence against Children, Moremi Initiative for Women's Leadership in Africa, among others.
Academic fields of interest:
I am interested in the role of the law as a catalyst for effecting positive social and behavioural change, especially towards the enjoyment of sexual and reproductive rights by women and adolescents in Africa.
Position prior to the programme:
Programme Analyst, Communication, UNFPA The Gambia
