Adjustment to Centre activities due to COVID-19

The Centre for Human Rights embraces a blended presentation for its human rights education projects, that is, the African Human Rights Moot Court Competition, the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition and the Advanced Human Rights Courses

Moot Courts

In the short-term, the #AfricanMoot2020 and #WorldMoot2020 preliminary rounds will be presented online, and final rounds in person later in the year.

The Advanced Human Rights Course on Judicial Enforcement of Socio-Economic Rights in Africa will in 2020 be presented online.

The Centre's Advanced Human Rights Course on Judicial Enforcement of Socio-Economic Rights in Africa scheduled to take place from 18 - 22 May 2020, will go ahead on these dates —but in an adjusted format. The course will in 2020 be presented virtually. A limited number of participants will be admitted. Lectures will be virtual, and participants will require to do pre-reading, submit assignments, and engage in online exercises.

African Human Rights Moot Court Competition

Due to the impact of the COVID-19, the oral rounds of the #AfricanMoot2020 will now be held in December 2020, and no longer in August.

The preliminary rounds of the Competition will now take place virtually, and the semi-final and final rounds have been rescheduled to take place in Dakar, in December 2020.

Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition

#WorldMoot2020

Due to the impact of the COVID-19, the oral rounds of the #WorldMoot2020  will now be held in December 2020, and no longer in July.

The Competition will be scheduled around Human Rights Day (10 December), with participating teams and judges travelling to Geneva, Switzerland, for the oral rounds.
