Country / Where did you grow up:
Serrekunda, The Gambia

Academic qualifications:
BA, Journalism and Communication Studies, Institut Superieur de l'Information et de la Communication, Rabat, Morocco

Experience:
I have worked in social justice and human rights movements and groups from an early age, with experience in child rights and women's rights advocacy. My professional background in Communications has seen me work with organisations like Think Young Women, Moremi Initiative for Women's Leadership in Africa, FRIDA - The Young Feminist Fund, among others, leading and supporting the design and implementation of advocacy and public awareness campaigns.

Academic fields of interest:
I am interested in the intersection between communication and human rights, with a specific focus on how media can be used as a tool to achieve social justice. In the context of this programme, my interest lies in access to public information vis-a-vis harmful practices like Female Genital Mutilation and Child Marriage, looking at how these practices can be eliminated through public awareness from a rights perspective.

Position prior to the programme:
Communication Officer, UNICEF The Gambia
