Previous experience

Ansela has work experience in the sphere of land reform. At Ndifuna Ukwazi Law Centre, she developed practical competencies in urban land reform and grew her passion for spatial justice in Cape Town. At the Legal Resources Centre, Ansela conducted research on rural land reform and environmental conservation policies that affect indigenous communities.
Ansela is a Canon Collins scholar, making her a member of an international, multidisciplinary network of students and alumni who are devoted to the promotion of social justice and ethical leadership.
At Stellenbosch University, Ansela worked as a student journalist for Die Matie, where she gained first-hand experience of the power of journalism to shine a light on injustice in its many forms. Throughout her studies, Ansela was employed by the Law Faculty as a tutor. She specifically enjoyed working with junior students on constitutional law issues.

Academic fields of interest:

  • Jurisprudence on socio-economic rights;
  • constitutional property law and land reform;
  • freedom of expression; anti-corruption and good governance;
  • environmental law.

Position prior to the programme

Ansela graduated with a post-graduate LLB from Stellenbosch University before joining the Centre for Human Rights. Becoming a specialist in human rights law has been her long-
standing aspiration.
