Previous experience

Ms. Ghazy is a legal professional specialising in international law, refugee protection, and human rights in Africa. She holds an LL.B. (English Section) from Ain Shams University and is currently an LL.M. candidate in International and Comparative Law at the American University in Cairo (AUC).

Professionally, she has served as a Senior Refugee Status Determination Assistant with UNHCR Egypt, where she conducted asylum interviews and drafted legal assessments in complex protection cases. She has also worked as a Case Worker Manager with Save the Children and with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in the field of education and refugee support. Earlier, at Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights, she monitored International Humanitarian Law IHL violations, contributed to submissions to the United Nations human rights mechanism, and participated in a collaborative research project with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) on cultural property protection.

Academically and professionally, Ms. Ghazy teaches legal research and writing and has been actively engaged in international moot court competitions, including the Jessup, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and Jean-Pictet competitions.

Academic fields of interest:

Ms. Ghazy’s academic interests include international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and refugee law, with a focus on the African human rights system. She is particularly interested in Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), colonial legacies in international law, and African-centred perspectives on human rights and democratisation.
