The organisers of the 30th African Human Rights Moot Court Competition, previously scheduled for 26 to 30 July 2021, announce the rescheduling of the Competition to 20 to 25 September 2021. The Competition will still take place in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
The new dates for the African Human Rights Moot Court Competition also apply to the International (Hybrid) Conference on the responsiveness of the African human rights system to sexual and gender-based violence.
The decision to postpone the Moot Court Competition has been taken after considerable deliberation on the matter between the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, and the Faculty of Law, University of Stellenbosch. The decision is grounded on the safety and well-being of participants. The new dates provide a window of time within which the situation in South Africa can settle, and move down to a lower alert level, thereby allowing for a Competition under circumstances more conducive to in-person participation.
As originally planned, we will proceed with the event as a hybrid event, where competing teams will participate in-person, while some conference presentations will take place in-person and online.
The organisers will be issuing updated visa letters, itineraries, and proof of accommodation to those that need these timeously.
We thank all stakeholders, in particular the participating teams, for their support and patience.
We look forward to seeing you in Stellenbosch in September.
